Prime Minister Taro Aso held the 79th meeting of the Council for Science and Technology Policy at the Prime Minister's Office.

Dr. Yoshiyuki Sankai, a professor at Tsukuba University Graduate School, who is working on the development and practical application of a robot technology to help elderly and disabled persons live self-supported lives, was invited to the meeting, and gave an explanation of his research and issues to be tackled. The Council members then exchanged views on how such technology can contribute to policy planning.

After the exchange of views, Prime Minister Aso commented, "This is a dream technology that enables persons with disabilities to move their bodies as they wish. Japan may be able to bring joy to people around the world through the practical application of this dream technology."
