Welcoming President Parvanov's visit, Prime Minister Aso said, "We sincerely welcome your first visit to Japan, which will make the opening of the commemorative 50th anniversary of the resumption of the diplomatic relations between our countries. We also welcome your becoming an Honorary President, along with His Imperial Highness Prince Akishino, of this commemorative Japan-Bulgaria exchange year. We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to that end."
