Prime Minister Taro Aso held the first meeting of the Headquarters for Emergency Employment and Economic Measures at the Diet building.

At the meeting, it was agreed that the government will work as one in close cooperation to implement and follow up on the measures to counter difficulties in people's daily lives decided at the Joint Meeting of the Government and Ruling Parties Council on New Economic Countermeasures and the Ministerial Meeting on Economic Measures on October 30 of this year, as well as the emergency measures to defend people's daily lives decided subsequently at the Ministerial Meeting on Economic Measures on December 19.

In his address, Prime Minister Aso said, "The degree of economic downturn is the most acute in the sixty-year post war period. It is therefore vital to take commensurate actions in an expeditious and steady manner. It is important to share information on the implementation status of countermeasures for employment on a regular basis."
