Prime Minister Taro Aso held the 6th Meeting on Education Rebuilding at the Prime Minister's Office.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Aso received the Recommendation on Enhancement of Textbooks (2nd Report), compiled at the Meeting on Education Rebuilding, from Mr. Yuichiro Anzai, Chair of the Meeting. Measures recommended include the stipulation of requirements for enhancing textbooks, by enhancing and increasing the quality and quantity of textbooks in light of amendments to the Fundamental Law of Education and the Course of Study, as well as by increasing the number of pages of textbooks -- aiming to double the number of pages in Japanese-language, Science, and English-language textbooks, for example -- so as to correspond to the improvement of their contents.

In his address, Prime Minister Aso said, "I hope to thoroughly reflect what is recommended here in the government's measures on textbooks. I consider issues discussed at the Meeting to be of extreme importance. I thus request your continued cooperation and that you continue your active discussions."
