At the meeting, the leaders discussed bilateral relations, cooperation in the international arena, and regional and international situations.
On bilateral relations, Prime Minister Aso and President Kaczynski agreed to further enhance cooperation, on the basis of the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries, for the stability and prosperity of the international community. They also concurred on further developing bilateral relations in a wide range of areas, including politics, the economy, and culture, with next year marking the 90th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Poland, and the year 2010 commemorating the 200th anniversary of the birth of Chopin.
The leaders each confirmed their intention to ensure that the two countries will continue working in closer cooperation as partners in the international arena, to address issues that the international community faces, such as the United Nations Security Council reform and climate change.
On regional and international situations, the Prime Minister and the President exchanged views on issues in a wide range of areas encompassing the world economy and the situation in Europe.
At the following joint press announcement, Prime Minister Aso said, "Based on today's meeting, I will vigorously advance bilateral cooperation with President Kaczynski."
