Prime Minister Taro Aso attended the deliberations on the proposed FY2008 supplementary budget at a meeting of the Budget Committee of the House of Councillors.

In response to a question on economic measures, the Prime Minister said, "As we are all aware, the financial situation, among the matters currently being deliberated, has changed drastically since the decision was made on the Comprehensive Immediate Policy Package. In light of this emerging situation, I have instructed the ruling parties to consider, without delay, formulating new economic measures. As a matter of great importance, we must observe how the situation will impact Japan's real economy. We must unfailingly make the necessary response, and this is the belief that lies at the core of the basic ideas."
