The Prime Minister Makes Congratulatory Telephone Calls to Winners of the Nobel Prize in Physics

The decision has been made to award the 2008 Nobel Prize in Physics to Dr. Yoichiro Nambu, Professor Emeritus of the University of Chicago, Dr. Makoto Kobayashi, Professor Emeritus of the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK), and Dr. Toshihide Masukawa, Professor at Kyoto Sangyo University. In response, Prime Minister Taro Aso made phone calls from the Prime Minister's Office to Dr. Kobayashi and Dr. Masukawa, in order to express his congratulations.

Prime Minister Aso congratulated them, saying, "I am sure the people of Japan are delighted to hear this very bright news." After being asked by the Prime Minister to send a message to young people, Dr. Kobayashi said, "Believe in yourself and do your very best," and Dr. Masukawa said, "What is important is to have an adventurous spirit in science."
