Prime Minister Taro Aso met with family members of the abductees, joined by Mr. Takeo Kawamura, Chief Cabinet Secretary, at the Prime Minister's Office.

At the meeting, the Prime Minister explained that, among other efforts, he had referred to the abduction issue in his address at the General Debate of the General Assembly of the United Nations delivered immediately after assuming the office of Prime Minister.

Then he said, "Although the abductions took place 30 years ago, it is an ongoing issue of extreme gravity. With three decades already passed, the issue is becoming much like a race against time. Therefore, I will seek a prompt resolution."
