1st Meeting of the Headquarters for Ocean Policy

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the first meeting of the Headquarters for Ocean Policy at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.
The Headquarters was established within the Cabinet for the purpose of promoting maritime policies comprehensively in a focused manner based on the Basic Act on Ocean Policy which was enforced on July 20. The members of the Headquarters will formulate a draft for the medium- and long-term Basic Plan on Ocean Policy and promote its implementation.
In his address, Prime Minister Abe said, "Surrounded by sea, Japan has enjoyed a wide-range of benefits of the oceans throughout the development of the nation. Protecting and utilizing the oceans is an important challenge for Japan's continued development. Now that the Basic Act on Ocean Policy is established and enforced, we must make this year the starting year for Japan to sail toward becoming a truly maritime nation." Prime Minister Abe thus confirmed the united efforts by all Cabinet members on maritime policies.
