Prime Minister Meets with the Chairman of the Central Third-Party Committee to Check Pension Records
Tuesday, June 26, 2007
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met with Mr. Go Kajitani, the Chairman of the Central Third-Party Committee to Check Pension Records established under the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.
The Committee is charged with investigating various documentation to make a fair judgment on correcting records for pensions of which the Social Insurance Agency has not kept track or for which the contributor lacks receipts. The Committee was convened for the first time on June 25.
Prime Minister Abe said, "Many people are highly concerned and anxious about whether they will receive pensions for the contributions they have made. I have great expectations for the Committee to conduct its investigation from the people's perspective in making sure that those people who have been making contributions dutifully receive their pensions in full." To this Chairman Kajitani replied, "It is absurd that people who paid their pension premiums in good faith should be unable to receive payment due to the state of affairs at the Social Insurance Agency. I am determined to work from the people's perspective in the belief that such a thing must not happen."
