Meeting of the Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a meeting of the Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy. At the meeting, the Council submitted to Prime Minister Abe the "Economic and Fiscal Reform 2007," or what is called "Basic Policies 2007," which stipulate the goals of enhancement of growth potential, construction of an administrative and financial system that befits the 21st century and realization of a sustainable, safe society, among others. The Prime Minister said, "My Cabinet has set the creation of 'a beautiful country' as a new goal that the nation should pursue. I understand that the Basic Policies 2007 identify the specific efforts to be made to realize the national goal. I will ensure that the Cabinet will work to further specify and firmly carry out each policy." Afterwards, during an extraordinary meeting, the Cabinet made its decision on the Basic Policies 2007, and the Prime Minister issued a statement.
