Prime Minister Shinzo Abe attended the 1st meeting of the Headquarters for Promoting Decentralization Reform at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

Prime Minister Abe held discussions after receiving an explanation from Mr. Uichiro Niwa, the Chair of the Decentralization Reform Committee, about a report entitled "Basic Approach for Promoting Decentralization Reform: Nation Building Initiated by the Local Governments," which was compiled on May 30.

In his address, Prime Minister Abe said, "Decentralization reform is one of the Cabinet's most important tasks. At the newly established headquarters, the whole government will join hands to tackle this reform and submit a new package of bills on decentralization to the Diet within the next three years. I would like to ask each of my Cabinet members to vigorously exert their leadership and cooperate with each other, regardless of the interests of each separate ministry and agency. I would appreciate your further endeavors towards this end."
