Prime Minister Shinzo Abe received the score of a song for the campaign against drug abuse from singer Mr. Shinji Tanimura.
The song, which was written by Mr. Tanimura, is scheduled to be released at the National Convention against Drug Abuse on June 8. It will furthermore be presented to the world from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) as part of its global campaign on June 26-the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The proceeds from the song will be used, through the Tanimura Fund to be established within the United Nations, to support activities to protect children around the world from drug abuse.
After the presentation of the score of the song, Mr. Tanimura said, "I wrote this song with the hope that it will be sung by many people in the world, including young people in Asia and on both government and private occasions, and that the message the song conveys will be widely shared by people across nations." In response, Prime Minister Abe, who chairs the Headquarters for the Promotion of Measures to Prevent Drug Abuse, said, "I believe that it is important to use the power of song to help drug abuse eradication activities grow into a world movement. As songs have no national boundaries, I would like to expand the circle of people fighting against drug abuse globally, with songs playing a central role."
