Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a meeting of the Headquarters for Promoting the Welfare of Disabled Persons, composed of all Cabinet members, at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

At the meeting, the Headquarters decided to compile a new Five-Year Implementation Plan for Priority Measures by the end of this year to succeed the current implementation plan for priority measures, which will be completed in FY2007. The new plan will stipulate measures to be implemented intensively to promote the welfare of disabled persons in the five years from FY2008 and the targets to be achieved.

Prime Minister Abe said in his address, "I would like to see the new plan reflect the enforcement status of elements of the system reform, such as the Law to Assist Self-Reliance of Disabled Persons, that followed the formulation of the current plan. I would also like to have the plan reviewed as necessary in line with the stipulation for its review." The Prime Minister also instructed to the Cabinet members, "I ask for your further effort in promoting measures for bringing about a society where everyone, with or without disability, can lead a comfortable life without anxiety in their own home community."
