Japan-Dominica Summit Meeting

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a meeting with Mr. Roosevelt Skerrit, the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Abe said, "Based on the new framework of the 21st century, we will continue to cooperate in areas such as the fishery sector and support your efforts toward the development of your nation." In return, Prime Minister Skerrit said, "I would like to express my gratitude for the generous assistance extended by the people of Japan."

Afterwards, Prime Minister Abe expressed his gratitude for Dominica's support regarding the whaling issue. At the same time, Prime Minister Abe said that Japan would like to deepen its cooperative relationship with Dominica from the viewpoint of the sustainable use of marine living resources. In response, Prime Minister Skerrit expressed his support for Japan's position. Prime Minister Skerrit also expressed his support for Japan's candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations (UN) Security Council as well as Japan's stance concerning North Korea's abduction issue.
