Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a meeting with Dr. Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister of India, who was visiting Japan as an official guest, at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.
First, Prime Minister Abe held a summit meeting with Prime Minister Singh to strengthen their personal relations of trust and agreed with Prime Minister Singh to raise Japan-India relations to the level of a strategic global partnership.
At the plenary session held afterwards, Prime Minister Abe proposed that the two leaders make annual reciprocal visits. The two leaders agreed to launch new economic partnership initiatives and cooperate with each other in such areas as improving infrastructure and developing human resources in manufacturing industries. They furthermore shared grave concerns on the nuclear test conducted by North Korea and also agreed to strongly seek a swift resolution to the abduction issue as a humanitarian concern.
