Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a meeting with Mr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, who is visiting Japan as a State Guest, at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.
At the meeting, the two leaders reaffirmed their agreement in principle to the Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJEPA) aimed at forging closer economic relations through liberalization, promotion and facilitation of trade and investment between the two countries, and agreed to build a closer mutually beneficial relationship in the areas of stable energy supply and energy cooperation. They shared the recognition that it was necessary to cooperate to ensure full compliance by North Korea with United Nations (UN) Security Council resolutions and respond to humanitarian concerns in North Korea, including the abduction issue. They also discussed UN Security Council reform and countermeasures for terrorism. Following the meeting, they held the signing ceremony for the Japan-Indonesia Joint Statement "Strategic Partnership for Peaceful and Prosperous Future," which aims to further elevate the bilateral relations between Japan and Indonesia to a higher plane. At the Joint Press Conference held afterwards, Prime Minister Abe said "Today's meeting was a good opportunity to comprehensively review Japan-Indonesia relations to date and affirm our intention to build future-orientated relations. It was also an extremely meaningful and satisfying meeting in the sense that I was able to build a personal and trusting relationship with President Yudhoyono." President Yudhoyono expressed his gratitude, saying, "I am grateful to the Government of Japan and the people of Japan for financial assistance through ODA and for their support in the aftermath of natural disasters such as tsunamis and earthquakes that have occurred over the last few years." Afterwards, the two leaders had a commemorative photograph taken with Mrs. Abe and Mrs. Yudhoyono and Prime Minister Abe hosted a dinner at the Prime Minister's Residential Quarters.
