Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a meeting with Mr. John Agyekum Kufuor, the President of the Republic of Ghana, at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

At the beginning of the meeting, Prime Minister Abe said, "I cordially welcome the President on his visit to Japan. This year, Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi visited Ghana. And now, you, Mr. President, are visiting our country. In this way, we are continuously developing our bilateral relations. I also believe that our bilateral relations will be developed further through our opportunities to hold summit meetings such as this and sideline cooperation at international meetings." In response, President Kufuor said, "Thank you very much. I cordially congratulate you on your assumption of office. I am very pleased to have been able to visit Japan at this early occasion and convey the best wishes of Ghana on your assumption of office as Prime Minister of Japan."
