Prime Minister Shinzo Abe threw the ceremonial first pitch at the Japan-U.S. All Star Series, which took place at the Tokyo Dome.
The Japan-U.S. All Star Series was battled out between players representing the MLB (the U.S. Major League) and the NPB (Nippon Professional Baseball), including MLB players Tadahito Iguchi and Kenji Johjima, who had paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Abe the previous day.
At the first-pitch ceremony, Prime Minister Abe responded with a smile to a cheering audience. Taking a ball he received from fellow participant Mr. John Thomas Schieffer, the U.S. Ambassador to Japan, Prime Minister Abe threw a pitch to Mr. Johjima, who was squatting in the catcher's position. Afterwards, on the field, Prime Minister Abe, along with Ambassador Schieffer and Mr. Johjima, autographed a commemorative home plate.
