Japan-Equatorial Guinea Summit Meeting

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a meeting with Mr. Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, the President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.
Prime Minister Abe shook hands with President Nguema, who was on his first visit to Japan. At the beginning of the meeting Prime Minister Abe said, "The Koizumi Cabinet placed emphasis on diplomacy with Africa, and the Abe Cabinet will carry on with that policy." The two leaders discussed topics such as continued assistance for democratization and improvement of governance in Equatorial Guinea, as well as contributing to economic growth and public stability through the development of human resources.
Afterwards, regarding North Korea's nuclear testing and the abduction issue, the leaders agreed that the steady implementation of the United Nations (UN) Security Council resolution by all countries was necessary concerning the nuclear testing, and that North Korea should be criticized absolutely over the abduction issue. In addition, they concurred on the importance of early realization of UN Security Council reform.
