The 1st meeting of the Innovation 25 Strategy Council was held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.
"Innovation 25," one of the pledges included in the policy speech of the Abe Administration, is a long-term strategic guideline for the creation of innovation that contributes to growth, which will have a range of prospects up to 2025.
The Council is intended to make reviews in order to formulate the long-term strategy.
At the beginning of the meeting, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said, "I see innovation not merely as new breakthroughs and technological inventions but as encompassing a broad spectrum of possibilities including new initiatives and technical ideas. Up until now Japan has tended to pursue ad hoc policies to realize very near-term goals and profits. I very much encourage all of you to discuss, from a long-term perspective and from a variety of angles, what kind of society will be achieved through new visions and innovation, how we should prepare for that, as well as recommend policies we should consider toward this end."
