Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a meeting with Mr. Nguyen Tan Dung, the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

At the meeting, the two leaders agreed to further expand and strengthen their bilateral relations as strategic partners for peace and prosperity in the Asian region.

After the meeting, the two leaders held a signing ceremony for the Japan-Viet Nam Joint Statement and thereafter attended a joint press conference. Prime Minister Abe said, "We are both young prime ministers in our fifties and new to our offices. We pledged that it is our responsibility as leaders of our new administrations to further strengthen our favorable bilateral relations."
