[Provisional Translation]

On September 27, 2021, the Prime Minister held an online meeting with skateboarder HORIGOME Yuto, who won the gold medal in the men’s street category at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and conveyed a congratulatory message to him.

In the meeting, the Prime Minister said,

“Congratulations! I would like to once again heartily congratulate you on winning a gold medal.

The outstanding achievements by you and many other athletes have catapulted skateboarding into a major sport for many people.

We also saw a 13-year-old winning a gold medal. We are glad to have backed up this new sport with younger generations playing a leading role. In that sense, I am very pleased that we were able to hold the Olympic Games.”

“I wish you the very best of luck in your future endeavors. And congratulations once again!”
