On June 3, 2020, the Prime Minister held the 48th meeting of the Council for the Implementation of Education Rebuilding at the Prime Minister’s Office.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister received the Council’s 12th proposal from Council Chair Mr. KAMATA Kaoru.

The Prime Minister said in his address,

“The Council for the Implementation of Education Rebuilding has put together its 12th proposal, which pertains to what new ways of learning in the post-COVID-19 era should be like. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the experts for your efforts.

As pointed out in the proposal, providing each and every student with optimal and diverse education and flexibly running existing systems to this end are necessary in the post-COVID-19 era, while utilizing digital technologies.

Therefore, this proposal sets out recommendations such as clarifying that high schools and universities can conduct in-person classes in a virtual format for up to half of their total class hours, enabling early graduation from university according to the number of university credits earned while in high school, developing pre-entrance education programs to diversify university entrance and graduation periods, and further utilizing data in providing education in school and other settings.

Going forward, I ask relevant ministers to cooperate in steadily carrying out the proposal under the leadership of Minister Hagiuda. I also request the experts to follow up on the progress in the implementation of the recommendations to date.”
