[Provisional Translation]

On April 20, 2021, the Prime Minister communicated with Dr. NOGUCHI Soichi, who is currently aboard the Japanese Experiment Module “Kibo” of the International Space Station (ISS), at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Astronaut NOGUCHI is the first non-U.S. crew member who boarded the Crew Dragon spacecraft, which was developed by a U.S. private enterprise and launched in November last year. After around six months of stay at the ISS, he will return to earth on April 29 (Japan time).

The Prime Minister was in contact with Astronaut NOGUCHI for approximately 15 minutes, together with Astronaut YUI Kimiya, who served as moderator, Minister of State for Science and Technology Policy INOUE Shinji, and Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology HAGIUDA Koichi.
