Exchange of Views with the President of the Japan Medical Association
February 10, 2021
[Provisional Translation]
On February 10, 2021, the Prime Minister held an exchange of views with the President of the Japan Medical Association at the Prime Minister’s Office.
The Prime Minister said in his address
“To begin with, I extend my sincere gratitude to the regional medical associations and local medical institutions, under the leadership of President Nakagawa, for working together with the respective local governments and advancing the preparations for putting a vaccination structure in place so far.
Regarding the vaccine, after confirming its safety and efficacy, we will begin vaccinations of medical practitioners from the middle of next week, and aim to vaccinate the elderly from April.
Vaccines serve as the decisive factor in infectious disease control. It is the responsibility of the Government to establish a structure that can allow all members of the public to receive the vaccine without concerns. To that end, the cooperation of local medical institutions is essential. I ask for your cooperation in implementing vaccinations.
Regarding the administration cost of vaccinations in the local governments, I have mentioned that the Government shall cover the full cost. In this regard, based on the views of the municipalities, we have decided to increase the amount of subsidies to almost double the amount that was initially set. The Government aims to firmly support the expenditures incurred by local medical institutions when cooperating with our efforts.
Also, I ask for your cooperation in registering to the vaccination facilitation system, V-SYS, as this is necessary to monitor the progress of vaccinations. Furthermore, we are also considering the development of a database to manage the records of those who have received coronavirus vaccinations, which will enable the swift verification of their vaccination history. I ask for your cooperation on this matter as well.
I sincerely ask the Japan Medical Association to continue to exercise its leadership, and support each step to develop a system for vaccination.”
