On October 16, 2020, the Prime Minister spoke to the press at the Prime Minister’s Office. Regarding his meeting with President Kajita of the Science Council of Japan, the Prime Minister said,

“Today, President Kajita visited my office to introduce himself after his appointment as President of the Science Council. I said to him that the Science Council must be understood by the public as an institution funded by the Government, which I have also mentioned at interviews and other occasions. As I understand that President Kajita also spoke to you here before me, he responded to me that he intends to consider together with the Government, the future roles of the Council in a forward-looking manner. The Government intends to do so, too. Therefore, we agreed to proceed with this course of action, while communicating with each other, in particular, with Minister Inoue and President Kajita.”
