On September 20, 2020, the Prime Minister spoke to the press at the Prime Minister’s Official Residence.

Regarding the telephone talks with the Hon. Scott Morrison MP, Prime Minister of Australia, and the Honorable Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America, the Prime Minister said,

“I just held telephone talks with Prime Minister Morrison of Australia and President Trump of the United States.

With Prime Minister Morrison, we agreed that Japan and Australia will advance cooperation to address various issues.

President Trump called on us to develop the Japan-U.S. Alliance further together. I mentioned that the Japan-U.S. Alliance is of course the foundation of the region’s peace and stability. We shared the view to advance cooperation. We also agreed on both countries closely collaborating on issues concerning North Korea and countermeasures against the novel coronavirus disease. Moreover, President Trump told me to call him anytime, 24 hours a day, should anything happen. We agreed on that.

Today, we swiftly agreed with the United States to work together, and I feel very confident with the outcome. Taking advantage of this opportunity, I intend to hold telephone talks with world leaders and advance collaboration by deepening their understanding of Japan’s position.”
