On September 23, 2020, the Prime Minister spoke to the press at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Regarding how he feels right now, the Prime Minister said,

“At the press conference after my appointment, I promised that I will advance regulatory reforms, tearing down bureaucratic sectionalism, vested interests, and the notorious habit of following past precedents, and create a ‘Cabinet that works for the People.’ To fulfill this promise, I am engaging in discussions with the relevant ministers and instructing them on various issues, such as the response to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), economic measures, the establishment of an agency in charge of digital transformation, and making fertility treatment coverable by insurance.

Today, I gave an instruction to submit a bill to establish such an agency to the ordinary session of the Diet next year. With regard to diplomacy, I am holding telephone talks with the respective world leaders, including President Trump, in turn. I feel that they have been fruitful.

I aim to meet the expectations of the people, keeping my eyes and ears open and maintaining a sense of urgency. Thank you.”
