On August 25, 2020, the Prime Minister held the 47th meeting of the Council for the Implementation of Education Rebuilding at the Prime Minister’s Office.

The Prime Minister said in his address,

“The distinguished members of the Council for the Implementation of Education Rebuilding began discussions on new forms of education in the ‘post-corona’ era at the previous meeting.

The recent novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is having a significant impact on Japan’s society and economy. In this situation, we must create a new normal for everyday life that leverages Japan’s unique strengths and characteristics.

In the ‘post-corona’ era, it is vital to ensure education for children, leaving no child behind. From this perspective, we must once again review the development of the educational environment such as education optimized for individual students with the full-scale use of ICT and class instructions for fewer students. Furthermore, there is also a need to deepen our considerations over the vision of universities and strategies for higher education in the ‘new normal,’ and the measures toward their realization, as well as autumn enrollment and work styles that enable society as a whole to support the nurturing of children.

I would like to ask the members of this Council to once again engage in intensive discussions. Thank you.”
