On April 20, 2020, the Prime Minister attended a Policy Roundtable of the Government and Ruling Parties at the Prime Minister’s Office.

At the meeting, the participants held discussions on the emergency economic measures in response to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), and the supplementary budget for FY2020.

Following the discussion, the Prime Minister said,

“The prolonged impact of the novel coronavirus disease has placed citizens in challenging circumstances. As the battle could be prolonged, in order to overcome this difficult situation together with the public, the government has decided to provide a cash payment of 100,000 yen per person to all citizens nationwide. With this decision, we will make the necessary changes to the emergency economic measures and supplementary budget.

In order to deliver those cash payments to the public as early as possible, the government will exert every effort, in cooperation with the local governments and relevant organizations that are in charge of implementing the measure.

I would like to ask for the cooperation of the ruling parties for the swift implementation of the emergency economic measures, as well as the early enactment of the supplementary budget for that. Thank you.”
