On February 14, 2020, the Prime Minister held a press conference at the Prime Minister’s Official Residence.
 
Regarding the first death from COVID-19 in Japan, and the Government’s future responses, the Prime Minister said,
 
“I would like to offer my heartfelt prayers for the repose of the woman who passed away yesterday, and express my condolences for her bereaved family.
 
As included in the emergency measures that we have compiled yesterday, we intend to work on the prevention of further outbreak and deterioration of patients’ symptoms thorough collaborating with local governments and accelerating the expansion of screening systems and strengthening of the treatment system for patients and as a whole.”
