Planning Meeting on a Social Security System Oriented to All Generations
November 21, 2019
[Provisional Translation]
On November 21, 2019, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the third planning meeting on a social security system oriented to all generations at the Prime Minister’s Office.
At the meeting, a hearing with experts was conducted.
Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said,
“Today we held the second hearing with experts.
The social security reform to one that is oriented to all generations is the most important challenge of the Abe Cabinet. We must carry out reforms to create a social security system in which all generations can enjoy peace of mind, from children to the elderly, amidst the declining birthrate and aging society, as well as the diversification of lifestyles.
Today, we heard on-site opinions from representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises, which account for 70% of employment across Japan.
In addition, we heard the views from representatives of the labor community, as well as from experts on work style reform and side jobs and multiple jobs.
I would like Minister in charge of Social Security Reform Nishimura and the relevant ministers, including Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare Kato, to further advance reviews towards the compilation of the interim report by the end of the year, while fully taking into account the valuable comments provided today.”
