[Provisional Translation]

On November 6, 2019, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe attended the Ministerial Meeting on the Restoration of Shurijo Castle, at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said,

“Shurijo Castle is an extremely important landmark that the people of Okinawa have always cherished, and which could be described as the pride of Okinawa. The Government will fulfill its responsibility and exert every effort towards swift restoration, including allocating necessary financial resources, while listening to the voices of Okinawa Prefecture and the local community.

I ask the relevant ministers to take the lead and work on the restoration, with the Government working as one, and promote measures in response to the local needs, such as tourism promotion.”
