On September 23, 2019, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a press conference at Tokyo International Airport (Haneda Airport).

Regarding his visit to the United States and Belgium, the Prime Minister said,

“I will be holding a summit meeting with President Rouhani in New York, following the previous meeting in Tehran during my visit to Iran in June. The peace and stability of the Middle East is directly tied to our national interests. I hope to have a frank and serious exchange of views with President Rouhani with the aim to ease tensions and stabilize the situation in the region.

With President Trump, I would like to affirm that we will exert our efforts in line with the Japan-U.S. Joint Statement of September announced last year so as to make our agreement on trade negotiations between Japan and the United States, which are reaching the final phase, a win-win for both Japan and the United States, and that we will closely collaborate with each other on international issues such as the issue of North Korea and the situation in the Middle East.”
