On August 16, 2019, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a Ministerial Meeting on Typhoon No. 10* at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said,

“The powerful typhoon, Typhoon No. 10, has cut across the Chugoku region, and is now moving north over the Sea of Japan. It is expected that we will continue to see heavy rains across eastern and northern Japan. In addition to the deaths caused by the typhoon thus far, this typhoon has injured people, damaged homes, and caused widespread disruption in the public transportation system in many prefectures. I express my condolences for the people who have lost their lives, and extend my sympathies to everyone who has been affected by this disaster.

Typhoon No. 10 is expected to subside into an extratropical cyclone by the early morning tomorrow. However, to protect the lives of the people, I ask you to continue your efforts to ensure that the information disseminated is easy to understand, and remain vigilant. In addition, I ask you to exert every effort to respond to damages caused by this typhoon, collaborating with local governments and relevant organizations, and to implement necessary measures once you identify further damages.

I ask the people to not let down their guard and to remain duly vigilant in case of landslides, flooding of rivers, violent winds and high waves. Furthermore, as we are seeing extreme heat across the country, I also ask the people to take sufficient precautions against heatstroke.”
