On June 27, 2019, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a press conference at Tokyo International Airport (Haneda Airport).

The Prime Minister stated the following about the holding of the G20 Osaka Summit.

“The G20 Osaka Summit, which Japan will chair for the first time, will start from tomorrow. In the international community, there is a tendency that confrontations are emphasized too often. I, as the Chair of the G20 Summit, want to find similarities or common ground, not the differences in views among member countries. I also wish to send out a strong message as the G20 (Summit on Financial Markets and the World Economy) to promote free trade, drive global economic growth through innovation, and make rules for the digital economy as well as to contribute to address issues, including environmental issues, and active participation of women. In addition, in the run-up to the opening of the G20 Summit, I would like to meet and confirm our collaboration towards the G20’s success with President Trump of the United States and President Xi of China. Furthermore, after the closing of the G20 Summit, I intend to hold a summit meeting with President Putin of Russia to have a frank and candid discussion and advance the status of peace treaty negotiations as much as possible. Last but not least, I very much hope that the leaders to attend the G20 summit from around the world will enjoy the excellent hospitality of Osaka.”
