Meeting of the Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy
June 11, 2019
[Provisional Translation]
On June 11, 2019, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held the third meeting of the Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy in 2019, at the Prime Minister’s Office.
At the meeting, discussions were held on an “employment ice-age generation” support program and the draft Basic Policy.
Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said,
“Today, we first held a discussion on a support program for the ‘employment ice-age generation.’
As I have been saying, addressing the issues surrounding the ‘employment ice-age generation’ is an important issue that could affect the future of our country. The Abe Cabinet aims at creating a society in which everyone can play an active role and enjoy peace of mind in their lives. In light of that, this Cabinet should address this issue urgently. It is the same as other programs in that not only the formulation but also the implementation of this program is important. I ask Minister Motegi to finalize the program based on the discussion we held today and prepare for the Government to implement the program steadily, working as one.
Next, we discussed about the draft Basic Policy. The Basic Policy is the most important policy package for the country, which identifies the priority issues in and direction for the Cabinet’s economic and fiscal policy. The Abe Cabinet will exert every effort towards the realization of Society 5.0, as our challenge in the new era of Reiwa.
I would like Minister Motegi to prepare the Basic Policy based on the discussions today and also like the relevant ministers, collaborating with one another, in particular, with Minister Motegi, to accelerate efforts so as to materialize Society 5.0.”
