On November 9, 2017, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a press occasion at the Prime Minister's Office.

In regard to his attendance at the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting and ASEAN-related summit meetings, and other events, the Prime Minister said,

“With regard to the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), Japan has led the discussions of TPP11. Japan will serve as the co-chair of the TPP Leaders’ Meeting to be held in Vietnam. As the co-chair, we will make every effort toward reaching an agreement in principle.

In addition, regarding the North Korea issue, I will hold frank discussions with the leaders of various countries, including President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin, based on the outcomes of President Donald Trump’s visit to Japan. I will advocate that we need to step up pressure on North Korea to the maximum in order to cause it to change its policies, and confirm our collaboration with the international community.

During this visit, I will also hold summit meetings with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang, respectively. Under the concept of our Mutually Beneficial Relationship based on Common Strategic Interests, I hope to make these meetings fruitful for further enhancing bilateral relations in a variety of areas while looking ahead to the 40th anniversary of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between Japan and the People’s Republic of China next year.

Additionally, I will hold a summit meeting with President Putin. On this occasion, I would like to make further strides on our joint economic activities on the Four Northern Islands and enabling former residents of the Northern Territories to freely make grave visits. At the same time, I hope to make this meeting an opportunity for making steady progress toward the conclusion of a peace treaty.”
