[Provisional Translation]

On November 6, 2017, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a meeting with the families of people abducted by North Korea together with the Honorable Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America, at Akasaka Palace State Guest House.

The Prime Minister said in his address following the meeting,

“I would like to express my gratitude to President Trump for speaking about Ms. Megumi Yokota and the abduction issue during his speech to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in September, a speech which received the utmost attention worldwide. I would also like to thank President Trump for meeting today with the families of abductees.

I want everyone in the world to know that the people here, who have suffered for 40 years since their loved ones were taken, still continue to suffer.

We will exert every effort on this issue until the day comes when all of you can embrace your daughters or other family members with your own arms. I will exert every effort for the resolution of this issue, together with the cooperation of President Trump and people around the world.

Once again, I would like to express my gratitude to President Trump and the First Lady, Melania.”
