Press Occasion by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on the Ballistic Missile Launches by North Korea (March 7, 8:35 a.m.)
March 7, 2017
[Provisional Translation]
Just now I held a telephone talk with President Trump. Japan and the United States affirmed that the recent missile launches by North Korea were clear violations of relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions, were clear challenges to the region and the international community, and furthermore constituted a new level of threat.
President Trump stated that the United States was with Japan 100%, and that he hoped his comment would be conveyed to the people of Japan also. President Trump also stated that he hoped Japan would have complete confidence in him and the United States.
Going forward we will respond to this issue through close cooperation between Japan and the United States, as well as between Japan, the United States, and the Republic of Korea. It is also my intention that Japan as a whole is thoroughly prepared.
