Proposal from the LDP Parliamentary League on Cybersecurity Countermeasures
May 23, 2017
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe received a proposal from the Parliamentary League on Cybersecurity Countermeasures of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan (LDP), at the Prime Minister's Office.
After receiving the proposal, the Prime Minister said,
"I want to express my gratitude to you all for your dedicated efforts to achieve cybersecurity, an important issue for the security of Japan, and for compiling this proposal.
I would like to take this opportunity to say a few words about the explosion that occurred at a concert hall in Manchester in the United Kingdom a few hours ago. I understand there are many casualties and wounded. I would like to offer my condolences to the victims as well as sympathies to the wounded.
Terrorism is absolutely intolerable. No matter the reason we must eradicate terrorism. I will continue to work closely with partners in order to eradicate terrorism that harms innocent people.
This month, there was a large-scale cyberterrorism attack. With such an attack having occurred in the world, cybersecurity countermeasures are an urgent issue for Japan that will be hosting the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Government, the LDP, and our fellow ruling party must collaborate to steadily take responses to this issue, and I would like to ask for your cooperation in this regard."
