Prime Minister's Visit to the United States: First Day
September 26, 2015
[Provisional Translation]
On September 26 (local time), Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited New York in the United States of America.
In the morning, the Prime Minister attended a meeting of leaders of the G-4 countries, and then held a summit meeting with H.E. Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya.
In the afternoon, Prime Minister Abe attended the Third Japan-African Regional Economic Communities (RECs) Summit Roundtable and talked with H.E. Mr. Hailemariam Desalegn, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and then hosted a dinner banquet for the creation of a society in which all women shine.
In his opening address at the dinner banquet, the Prime Minister made the following remarks,
“Today, I am very pleased to have been able to meet the other ‘IMPACT 10x10x10’ leaders selected by UN Women for being champions in their respective fields for the promotion of activities by women, as well as many female leaders active in the United States.
I have said that Japan has led the international community in terms of active participation by women.
At the end of last month, we held the second World Assembly for Women in Tokyo (WAW! Tokyo 2015), an event that was also kindly attended by Executive Director Mlambo-Ngcuka of UN Women. During that Assembly, 150 female leaders from Japan and the rest of the world discussed initiatives for the promotion of active participation by women. We compiled their proposals and published them for the world to see.
Today I would like to have a frank exchange of opinions with all of you, trade opinions and ideas, and learn from you about how we can create a society in which all women shine. I hope that today will mark the first step toward the strengthening of our collaborative efforts. Thank you very much.”
