Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited the National Museum of Western Art to view the “Bordeaux: Port de la Lune” exhibition, as part of “yu-katsu,” an initiative aimed at transforming people’s lifestyles during the summer, when daylight hours are long, by encouraging them to start work earlier in the morning and enjoy evenings with their family and friends, thereby reducing long working hours and allowing people to lead more fulfilling lives.
After viewing the exhibition, the Prime Minister said,
“The yu-katsu movement has just started, and so far I have enjoyed only about half an hour of yu-katsu, but I feel as if it will enrich my life.
Although I was only able to spend a short amount of time here today, I enjoyed viewing the “Bordeaux: Port de la Lune” exhibition, and experiencing a little of the history and art of beautiful Bordeaux.
I would truly like everyone to make full use of yu-katsu to enjoy life, such as by having more relaxed time to spend with family and friends, or enjoying hobbies and following one’s personal interests.
I also hope that yu-katsu will help change the custom of working long hours.”
