On May 17, following on from the previous day, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited Wakayama Prefecture.

First, Prime Minister Abe visited a section of National Route 311 in Tanabe City where work is underway to repair the road following a natural disaster.
Following that, the Prime Minister visited a worksite where the Nakahechi Town Forest Union is thinning forests. While there, he test drove a processor and exchanged views with workers.

Additionally, the Prime Minister went to the Kumano Hongu Heritage Center, where he heard an explanation about initiatives to increase the number of tourists from overseas to the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage routes.
In the afternoon, the Prime Minister visited a fiber products manufacturing machine maker in Wakayama City, where he watched a demonstration of a flat knitting machine in operation.
