On September 22, commencing at 15:55 local time (at 04:55 JST on 23 September) for approximately 20 minutes, Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, who is visiting New York, the United States, to attend the UN High Level Week, held a summit meeting with H.E. Mr. Volodymyr ZELENSKYY, President of Ukraine. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
1. At the outset, Prime Minister Takaichi once again paid her respect to Ukrainian people, who are standing up for the peace of their homeland under the strong leadership of President Zelenskyy, and stressed that Russia’s aggression against Ukraine is an outrageous act that shakes the very foundations of the international order and that, in order to realize a just and lasting peace as soon as possible, it is essential that countries work together to support Ukraine.
2. Prime Minister Takaichi also reaffirmed that Japan would continue to stand with Ukraine and Japan’s position would never waver, and stated that Japan would work to support Ukraine and impose sanctions against Russia together with the international community.
3. In response, President Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude for Japan’s support to date and explained Ukraine’s efforts in the current situation.
