On September 14, commencing at 3 p.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call from Dr. Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), who is visiting Japan. The overview of the courtesy call is as follows:

At the outset, Prime Minister TAKAICHI stated that, in addition to the efforts under POWERR Asia and Japan’s call on the international community to advance the three pillars for ensuring global energy security, namely, (i) Ensuring free and transparent energy trade, (ii) Strengthening international coordination on oil stockpiling, and (iii) Enhancing coordination between producing and consuming countries, Japan launched POWERR GX, an initiative aimed at further strengthening the resilience of
Japan's energy supply and demand structure by reinforcing the stability of fossil fuels supply and accelerating and enforcing GX. She also stated that Japan hopes to promote the efforts under POWERR GX globally and thereby strengthen the resilience of the global energy supply and demand structure.

In response, Executive Director Birol expressed his appreciation for Japan’s energy policies including POWERR Asia and POWERR GX, and stated that the IEA would work closely with Japan to ensure global energy security, including the stability of energy markets.

Both sides also exchanged views on the diversification of energy supply sources and the strengthening of supply chain resilience for critical minerals, and agreed to cooperate closely between Japan and the IEA amidst the challenging global energy landscape.
