Video Message from Prime Minister Takaichi for the 8th Asia-Africa-Arab 55 General Assembly

Good evening, everyone. I am TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan.

Chairman KOGA, Honorary Chairman NIKAI, Your Excellencies, Distinguished guests, on the occasion of the 8th Asia-Africa-Arab 55 General Assembly, I wish to extend my heartfelt congratulations and express my deepest respect for the dedication and efforts of all involved.

We witness the remarkable dynamism and impressive developments unfolding across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. It is therefore my government’s firm resolve to further strengthen cooperation with these regions.

In August this year, Japan hosted the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), attended by many leaders. We engaged in dynamic discussions on how Japan and Africa can create solutions to foster shared prosperity.

Last month, I had the privilege of visiting South Africa for the first time to attend the G20 Summit, where I experienced firsthand the vibrant energy and charm of the Continent. Japan remains steadfast in its commitment to further deepen the partnership with Africa in the years ahead.

The Middle East is important for Japan’s energy security and from a strategic perspective. Japan remains committed to contributing to the easing of tensions in the region, building on the existing trust that we have established over the years with the countries in the Middle East.

Our relationship with Asian countries is extremely important, as they are located close to Japan and are growing rapidly. During the ASEAN-related Summit Meetings, which marked my first overseas trip after taking office as Prime Minister, I expressed my determination to further strengthen collaboration to make Japan and ASEAN stronger and more prosperous. We will continue to promote a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP).”

In closing, I am confident that this Asia-Africa-Arab 55 platform will continue to play a critical role in further strengthening the relations between Japan and these regions, and would like to extend my heartfelt wishes for the good health of all those present.
