Japan-Turkmenistan Summit Meeting (Summary)

On December 20, Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, held a Summit meeting with H.E. Mr. Serdar BERDIMUHAMEDOV, President of Turkmenistan, who is paying a visit to Japan to attend the Summit of "Central Asia plus Japan" Dialogue (CA+JAD). At the beginning of the meeting, the two leaders presented Joint Press Release. In addition, on the occasion of the visit of President Berdimuhamedov to Japan, public and private cooperation documents and projects were prepared. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
 
1. Introduction
(1) Prime Minister TAKAICHI welcomed President Berdimuhamedov’s second visit to Japan this year and stated that she would like to closely work together to deepen relations with Turkmenistan as mutually beneficial partners based on friendship and mutual trust.
(2) In response, President Berdimuhamedov expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome he received during his visit to Japan and his desire to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
 
2. Bilateral Relations
(1) Prime Minister TAKAICHI welcomed that the bilateral relations between Japan and Turkmenistan made progress in various fields including CA+JAD and stated that Japan would like to further strengthen economic relations utilizing its technology in order to realize energy transition of Turkmenistan with its rich natural resources. Prime Minister TAKAICHI also stated Japan’s intention to contribute to enhancement of the global supply chains, including the “Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.”
(2) In response, President Berdimuhamedov said that he would like to strengthen cooperation in all areas, such as political, economic and cultural fields.

3. Regional Situation and Cooperation in the international arena
(1) The two leaders also discussed the regional situation, and concurred that they would continue to cooperate.
(2) The two leaders confirmed that they would continue to work closely together in the international arena.
