Japan-Vietnam Summit Meeting (Summary)

 On November 16th, commencing at 10:48 a.m. local time (0:48 a.m. on November 17th, Japan time) for 20 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, participating in APEC summit meetings, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Luong Cuong, President of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam. The overview is as follows.

1. At the outset, Prime Minister ISHIBA congratulated President Cuong on his appointment. Noting that President Cuong had served in the military and that Prime Minister ISHIBA had served as Minister of Defense in the past, Prime Minister ISHIBA expressed his desire to cooperate in further developing bilateral relations, including in the security field. In response, President Cuong congratulated Prime Minister ISHIBA on his appointment and expressed his desire to cooperate with Prime Minister ISHIBA under the “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World”.

2. The two leaders agreed that, under the new partnership, they will deepen cooperation in all areas, including through strengthening people-to-people exchanges at various levels, including at the high level; deepening cooperation in the economic field, including new areas such as digital transformation (DX) and green transformation (GX); strengthening collaboration in the field of economic cooperation, including infrastructure development; promoting cooperation in the security field; human resource development; and responding to the aging society.

3. The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international situations and agreed to continue to work together in addressing regional and international issues such as the South China Sea, for peace and stability in the region.
